Clostridium Perfringens causes food poisoning as I have mentioned earlier. Thus, it creates abdomen problem and ache. Also, it affects the tissues during gas gangrene. That’s why scientist derived its name from the Latin word Per (through) and Frango (burst). C. Perfringens is always present in nature. Hence everyone is vulnerable to suffer from this. However, the major symptoms are the following,

  • Diarrhoea (6 to 24 hours)
  • Abdominal Cramps
  • No vomiting
  • Dehydration
  • Swelling
  • Blisters

Everyone is susceptible to food poisoning from C. Perfringens, however, young and elders have more chances to suffer. Laboratories can diagnose C. Perfingens infection by detecting bacterial toxin.

Precautions

C. Perfringens infection can be severe in teens and elders and can last for 1 to 2 weeks too. Moreover, it can also cause dehydration in severe cases. So, it is better to follow precautions to avoid its severity. Thus you should adhere to the following preventive measures.

  • Cook food well and at a good internal temperature. Especially roasts of beef and poultry you should cook well.
  • The leftover food you should keep at a colder place. It is better to refrigerate the leftover.
  • Never eat any smelly or doubtful food. Throw it away if you feel any change in its taste or smell.
