Hassanal Bolkiah is the Sultan of Brunei and one other longest-serving rulers in the world. Also, he is one of the last absolute monarchs. Hassanal who born on 15 July 1946 has his full name Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibn e Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien. He assumed the office on 5 October 1967 and since then he is ruling.

Early Life and Education
The Sultan was born as a crown prince to his parents. He got his early education at Victoria Institution in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Later, for higher studies, he moved to England. He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and graduated in 1967. He then returned to Brunei and took charge of Brunei Sultanate.
Reign of Sultan Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah
As I have mentioned above, became the Sultan of Brunei after his father abdication. However, his coronation ceremony held on 01 August 1968. Moreover, Brunei was a protectorate until 1984, thus, the sultan was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. Sultan also became the Yang Yang di-Pertuan ( The Head of the state) as well as the Prime Minister ( The Head of Govt). Hence, he has the full authority and power of the country in any situation.
Also, Hassanal is the Minster of Defence and Minster if the Finance of the country. As a Minister of the Defence, he is also the Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. Besides this, he is also honorary General in British and Indonesian Armed Forces as well as an Honorary Admiral in Royal Navy. Hassanal also appointed himself the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Royal Brunei Police Force.
Hassanal Bolkiah children and family
Sultan married to three ladies. In 1965, he married his cousin Princess Saleha and she is the queen also. Later, he married Hajah Mariam in 1982 but divorced her in 2003 after 21 years. In 2005, he again married Azrinaz Mazhar at the age of 61. However, he also divorced her in 2010. Hassanal has five sons and seven daughters from his three wives.
Besides all above, Hassanal is very fond of cars. He used to have a collection of 2500 cars, the largest in the world. Hence they earned a lot of criticism to waste billions of USD.
