Robert Smith Morehouse College relationship is like a love affair. He got an honorary degree also from the college. Well, Robert Smith is an American billionaire and businessman. According to Forbes, he was the 163rd richest person in America. Moreover, he is also a famous philanthropist, chemical engineer and an investment banker. Also, he owns a financial company Vista Equity Partner.
Morehouse College is a traditional liberal arts college in the USA. Moreover, the private college is a historic black men’s college in Atlanta, Georgia. Donation to Morehouse College
Robert Smith who is famous for his charity actions donated a huge amount to the college fund. While attending the graduation ceremony where he also received a degree, he announced $34 million for Morehouse students. The college administration announced in September 2019 that Robert and his family fulfil their promise fro the class of 2019. Hence they have donated $34 million for the new Morehouse College students success programme.
Further, they added that fund will pay off the debt of the class and to their parents who afforded their expenses. While Smith himself said at the ceremony,
On behalf of my eight generations who have been in America, we are going to put a little fuel in your bus. This class of 2019 is my class. So, we are going to make a grant to eliminate the loans of the students.
The grant is now part of the college “Students Success Programme”. Thus current and future students will get partial and full scholarships. Moreover, the president of the college David A. Thomas called this grant “Liberation Gift”. He further added,
It is our hope that graduates will use this financial liberty to pursue their career and achieve their goals. As a result, they ill serve the community a better way.
Eligibility Criteria
The students who graduated in May 2019 or completed their degree requirements in the Summer are eligible to get their loans to pay off. However, the loan of the following category will be paid,
- Federal Subsidized loan
- The Federal Unsubsidized loan
- Georgie Student Access Loan
- Perkin Loan
- Parent Plus loan
- Private student loan
