Location and Brief History

Badshahi Mosque is in Lahore city, the capital of province Punjab. Lahore is also famous for many other historical places also. The mosque is along the old Lahore city and in the west of Lahore Fort. The Mughal Empire Aurangzeb Alamgir constructed this mosque. He was not much fond of architect and art but he constructed this mosque. The mosque is also known as the Imperial Mosque.

After the downfall of the Mughal Era, the Sikh Empire and the British Empire used this mosque as a military garrison. But, when the Pakistan Movement started, Muslims started restoration of the mosque in 1939. Moreover, When Pakistan came into being Sir Sikandar Hayat renovated it more and the work lasted till 1960.
