Rohtas Fort Jhelum Pakistan is an exceptional Muslims military architecture. It is a fortress of the 16th century. Sher Shah Suri, a great Muslim warrior built this fort during his reign. Location and Brief History
Rohtas Fort is near Jhelum city in province of Punjab. The distance from Jhelum city is 16 kilometres in Northwest. However, from GT (Grand Trunk) Road, it is 8 kilometres away. Moreover, the fort is more close to Dina city than Jhelum.
The fort covers an area of 12.63 acres and is 810 meters above sea level. Because Sher Shah Suri constructed this fort on hills, hence it is 91 meters above from surroundings. Mr Suri designed this historic fort to block the advancement of Mughal Emperor as well as Ghakar tribes. However, Mughal Emperor Humayun conquered this fort in 1555. Things to see in the Fort
The fort has Turkish design in its construction with the traditional style of Middle East. There are twelve gates of this fort and each one has its name. These gates feature some best masonry work of the Sur Empire. Each gate has its history and dimension. When you will visit this fort, it will surely take you back in history. Some prominent name of gates are Sohail, Shah Chandwali, Kabuli, Shishi and Langar Khani. Similarly, seven more gates are there.
Then there is the Royal Mosque near the Kabuli Gate. It is also one of the masterpieces of architecture. The important thing about these premises is that these are built-in Ashlar stone. The fort has also some decorative feature like stone carving, Calligraphy, Tilework and Plasterwork.

The fort remains open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The best time to visit the fort is usually 3:00 pm. Moreover, it is also suggested that you should carry your edible with you.
